A unique strength, balance and mobility programme for everyday living.

What is Life in Balance?

Life in Balance is a 10-week programme developed by Imi and Jo, who have a shared passion for helping people move better, feel stronger and live more fully. Designed for people in midlife and beyond, it combines strength, balance and mobility training with something you won’t find in a typical exercise class – the skills to understand and improve the way you move, for life.

Jo is a HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and CSP (Chartered Society of Physiotherapists) registered physiotherapist and is passionate about promoting physiotherapy as a way of exercising that can be incorporated into daily life, not just to treat injury but as part of a proactive approach to preventing musculoskeletal problems.

Imi is a soft tissue therapist and qualified Feldenkrais Method Practitioner, with almost three decades of experience in bodywork and movement. Soon she is starting an occupational therapy degree.

Who is it for?

If you’ve started to notice that everyday tasks and movements such as climbing stairs, getting up from the floor, bending, reaching, turning, and balancing, feel that little bit harder than they used to, then Life in Balance was made with you in mind. This is for anyone who wants to stay active, independent and capable, or simply keep up with a busy day, not just now, but for the years ahead.

What makes it different? This is not just another exercise class.

Most exercise classes teach you what to do. Our weekly sessions go beyond “follow along and repeat.” We teach you how to move. There’s an important difference.

We help you become more aware of your body and how it moves through the world. Whether it’s getting up from a chair with ease, feeling steady on uneven ground, or simply having the energy and confidence to do the things you love, even on days when you’re tired or managing an ache or pain. We increase your movement options and your ability to adapt, so that when life throws something unexpected at you, you know what to do. Life in Balance builds real strength and balance through exercises that reflect your daily life.

We call this working smarter, not harder. This results in you using energy more efficiently, recovering more easily and building resilience.

What’s included?

Alongside your weekly classes, you’ll have full access to a dedicated online portal. This includes videos recapping what we have taught you to support your practice between sessions and information on common conditions that affect movement and wellbeing as we age. We believe what you do between classes is just as important as the classes themselves, and we’ll give you everything you need to make the most of it.

Life in Balance is priced to reflect the depth of expertise and the lasting value it offers. This programme is a small and worthwhile investment, one that could help you stay active, capable and enjoying life for much longer.

Our aim, above all, is to make ourselves progressively unnecessary. By the end of these 10 weeks, you’ll have the knowledge, awareness and confidence to take your health into your own hands.

An investment in your future

What does it cost?

The whole programme costs £150. Here is what’s included:

  • 10 x 60 min expert-led classes (physiotherapy + movement awareness combined).
  • Online portal access for 20 weeks including exercise videos, movement awareness lessons, and curated guidance on topics like osteoarthritis resilience, bone health, joint resilience and more.
  • Guest session on a topic that matters such as nutrition, foot health, or walking technique.
  • A private Facebook group where we share tips and advice, and members can support one another and share success stories.
  • Being part of a community, to support you through the whole programme and beyond.
  • That’s £15 a session, with expert input that keeps working for you long after the programme ends.

Is This Programme Right for You?

You may recognise some movements becoming more difficult, such as:

  • Turning to fasten a seatbelt, reverse the car, or maybe your golf swing is suffering.
  • Reaching up to higher shelves or lifting shopping into the car
  • Bending to do gardening
  • Moving from sitting to standing
  • Balancing to pull on trousers
  • Walking on uneven ground or managing stairs
  • Climbing over stiles on a country walk
  • Getting up and down from the floor

This course is for you if:

  • You want to improve your strength, balance and wellbeing.
  • You want to take proactive steps to stay strong, mobile and confident as you age.
  • You don’t just want to live longer, you want to live well and maintain an active, fulfilling lifestyle.
  • You would value a structured, therapist-led programme targeting the most common physical challenges that affect independent living.

When This Programme May Not Be Suitable

This group-based programme may not be appropriate if:

  • You require more than a walking stick for mobility or need physical assistance during exercise.
  • You have uncontrolled medical conditions.
  • You have experienced unexplained falls in recent months without appropriate medical assessment or management of the underlying cause.

In these circumstances, group sessions may not provide the level of supervision or individualisation required for safe participation.

However, we would be very happy to discuss working with you on a one-to-one basis to ensure you receive the appropriate support.

Please do get in touch if you are unsure. We are always happy to talk things through and help you decide what is right for you.

Whether you’re recovering from injury or managing a musculoskeletal condition, we’ll work with you to build strength, improve mobility, and support your long-term wellbeing.
